Two-factor authentication can be time-consuming, but verifying that it is you that is logging into your Microsoft 365 account can also be frustrating, requiring a separate app, SMS, phone call codes, or a physical key to prove your identity.
Therefore, Microsoft has developed a feature called 'Authenticator Lite,' which allows users to access one-time passcodes without needing an additional authenticator app. This feature enables users to complete multi-factor authentication (MFA) for their work or school account using the Outlook app on their iOS or Android devices.
Unfortunately, this new feature is not compatible with PCs. The increasing focus on smartphones and tablets as primary devices for accessing online services may lead to a neglect of PC users, particularly if they do not have a clipboard feature. This makes it more difficult to use time-sensitive security codes, such as those used in two-factor authentication.
There is no information on whether Microsoft will introduce a feature to support other devices. However, the project to export this new feature will be completed in March 2023.
